I Know You From Somewhere

Logan paces the dim living room, heart hammering like a trapped animal. His folks, Jef and Nicole, those bible-thumping pillars of judgment, have been circling him for weeks, sniffing out his secret. He's gay, damn it, but they've beaten that truth out of him with their glares and sermons. So he spins the lie—a girlfriend, some phantom girl to throw them off. But now? They demand flesh and blood, a meet-the-parents ambush. Cornered, sweat beading on his brow, Logan begs Cindy, his sharp-eyed buddy with a wicked grin, to play the part for one tense night.
She slips into the role like smoke through cracks, batting lashes and flashing smiles that fool even the hounds. Jef nods, grunts approval; Nicole simmers with cautious warmth. It works—until it doesn't. Jef corners Cindy in the kitchen, his bulk blocking the door, eyes narrowing like a predator scenting blood. 'I know you,' he growls, voice low and gravelly. 'That commercial. The one with the tits and the tease.' Her mask cracks, just a flicker, but it's enough. He sees it all—Logan's lie crumbling to dust, the queer truth spilling out.
'He's one of them,' Jef mutters, lips curling in disgust. 'And if I spill this to your mother, boy, you're out on the street, penniless and alone.' But then his gaze slithers over Cindy, hungry, bargaining. 'Keep my mouth shut? Make it worth my while. Right here. Show me what that commercial promised—and more.' The air thickens, electric with threat, her choice hanging like a noose in the shadows.
